I couldn't let this book go. A very fun and beautifully done modern twist on the Gothic genre. The nature of the contempt then disgust you feel toward the family (minus Francis ❤️) transforms as the book progresses, yet it never ceases to feel realistic, even with the introduction of supernatural elements. Perhaps it's because families with the same sensibilities as the Doyles exist in real life, and would surely enact the same horrors if it were possible.
